Medical faculty campus Vrazov trg
Start of construction: 2024
Investor: University of Ljubljana
Location: Ljubljana
The Vrazov Trg Campus includes existing buildings - the southern and western wings, which will be preserved in their current form, and the northern and eastern wings, which will be demolished and replaced with new construction. The planned building will be 2B+GF+3 in size, with a total area of 21,065 m². The lowest basement level will partially serve as a garage with parking spaces for employees.
The new construction aims to establish a spatial dialogue to frame the perimeter of the existing building block and enhance the broader urban context, linking and harmonizing the structure of the protected cultural heritage of the parish building with the Church of St. Peter. The new building is designed on a “comb” principle, with a continuous eastern wing intersected by transverse wings with intermediate atriums. The main entrance is located in the first basement level, considered the “lower ground floor” of the building.
Special construction features include the goal of achieving the DGNB certificate, which assesses the sustainability of buildings and urban areas based on environmental, economic, and social criteria; new construction in reinforced concrete, requiring 20,000 m³ of concrete and 2,400 tons of reinforcing steel; geotechnical excavation protection using jet grouting technology and temporary geotechnical anchors; an aluminum louver facade that also serves as shading for the building; and the execution of technically demanding spaces such as various laboratories (medical research center, biophysics, biochemistry, pathological physiology…). The project will be managed in a unified software environment, Dalux.
